Overview:
It’s the beginning of the summer and we are at Hetch Hetchy in beautiful Yosemite. The rocky mountains still have blankets of snow. Other than a rainy first day the weather has been hot, hot, and more hot. The snow melts rapidly in the heat and the waterfalls are kickin’. The crew is made up of fantastic individuals that hope to come together as a strong crew. Everyone is working hard and their blistered feet are paying the price. Spirits remain high despite a C1 that pushes them hard.
Mission Statement:
During our Backcountry experience we expect to force ourselves out of our comfort zones, while exceeding the expectations of ourselves and others. We vow to get the most out of our time in Yosemite by living each day to the fullest. Our goals include: keeping a positive attitude with an eye towards the big picture, making a beneficial environmental impact; and working tirelessly to ensure the hard-earned results of our labor. The flow of our crew will remain united while we develop healthy relationships with one another, agreeing to leave no person behind. For us, failure is not an option.
Curriculum:
For the first two weeks we have been focusing on learning the skills needed to be a strong crew and safe weekend adventures. We have had classes on respect, low impact camping, learned how to the tie knots we need for camp, and discovered the wealth of information available on a map.
More Overview:
The crew is getting to know our sponsors Remo Fickler (Yosemite ’97), Justin, Jeremy, and our wonderful cook Paul (Inyo ’02). He cooks some bomb *** food!
