BACKCOUNTRY TRAIL CREW -- 2005 MONTHLY OVERVIEW

HUMBOLDT TRINITY BACKCOUNTRY TRAIL CREW
SEPTEMBER 2005 MONTHLY REPORT
KARLSON HUBBARD, BACKCOUNTRY TRAILS SUPERVISOR

OVERVIEW:

We finally got our chance to do rockwork in September, 3 weeks worth, which was a great way for us to end our season. We also found it somewhat difficult to focus as we could feel the end nearing. Nevertheless, we managed to kick out a good amount of quality rockwork.

We also had the Union Creek Canyons echoing with our laughter and rejoicing. At some point our time for reflection will hit us in the face like a rock bar that’s lost its bite, but for now we are leaving the wilderness happy and content, tired and worked out-- like we should be. Thanks Trinity Alps, Jon Sanstrom, Sage Paulsen, Joy Fischer and Alysia Ballinger, our Forest Service sponsors.

CURRICULUM:

We basically just enjoyed ourselves during September by playing a couple of ‘Magic the Gathering’ tournaments. The games were bloody, long and drawn out with many goblins, soldiers, spirits, golems, and other warrior creatures perished during battle. We also spent several evening sessions filling out the extensive end-of-season evaluation and covering all the other paper work this time of the year entails. Finally, we got a very special treat as we left the backcountry on our road to debriefing— a whitewater rafting trip. It was fun and exciting as we experienced the power and magic of the wild river.
