OVERVIEW:
We spent the month of August living and working up Union Creek, our final home for the season. Our camp was the plushest we’ve had all season, with plenty of swimming holes and a nice, spacious meadow nearby. August passed by almost unnoticed for us because we were steadfast into our routines of the season and almost mindlessly living and working. The one remarkable thing about August though was that it was the month we finally came together as a crew and worked our problems out. The sponsors and the C1 left the crew to themselves one morning so they could hammer out their issues with one another unfettered. They succeeded and we all enjoyed the rest of the month together as a crew. We also played lots of Magic the Gathering.
CURRICULUM:
In August, we had classes on the following topics: Tool maintenance, Map reading (because several groups were getting lost on their weekends), Boot maintenance (because the crew members boots were falling apart), rockwork, poetry, photography, and a few game nights. We also had a Magic the Gathering tournament which crew supervisor Karlson Hubbard (Klamath, 2000), won.
PERSONNEL CHANGES:
None.
INJURIES:
A member of the crew was air lifted to the Redding Hospital from the Big Flat trailhead due to dehydration and a reaction to a bee sting. Our crew mate survived and quickly returned to the crew.
