Heat Preparedness
The Governor's Office of Emergency Services has launched a Heat Preparedness Web site that provides tips and information on how to beat the heat and stay safe this summer. The site includes preparedness tips for people and their pets, as well as links on energy conservation, phone numbers for local emergency management offices, and links to utilities statewide.

OES
The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services is a great place to start when becoming familiar with disaster preparedness. OES offers many resources for forming a family emergency plan and even suggests places within your community where you could volunteer to help others become more prepared as well.

Be Prepared California
This site is an excellent disaster preparedness resource. In addition to providing tips and tricks on developing a successful emergency plan, this site also provides information on how to prepare children for emergencies and what to do after an emergency situation has occurred.

American Red Cross
The American Red Cross provides a wealth of information to people ready to take the next step in disaster preparedness. Besides offering tips and tricks for developing an emergency response plan for the home, this website provides suggestions for developing the same types of plans for school, work, and within your community. You’ll also find reports and news on disasters throughout the nation, and ways to get involved to help those in need. Many of the articles are also available in Spanish.

72Hours.org provides in-depth instructions on handling multiple types of disasters. Ways to remain safe during earthquakes, fires, tsunamis, and outbreaks of contagious disease are discussed within this site, and you will also find a comprehensive guide on keeping pets safe during a disaster as well. Transient safety is also discussed, for those who use mass transit systems in order to get around town.

With summer just around the corner, more and more people will be spending time outdoors, but that means more people could be exposed to the West Nile Virus, which is most commonly transmitted by mosquitoes. This website provides information on the virus, including how it is spread and what to do if you think you have been infected.
