  • President George W. Bush, 2002:
(In Stockton, August 23, 2002, after meeting corpsmember Malikah Rashied of the CCC's Delta Center in Stockton.)
Today, at Airforce 1, I met Malikah Rashied... She volunteers for the country. In this case, she works for the California Conservation Corps, assisting in fire prevention cleanup projects. I mention her because I want people to understand that I understand the true strength of America. It's not in the halls of our government but in the hearts of our people. And there are people like her all across the country who are willing to try to make the communities in which they live a better place for all of us. I appreciate your service. I also appreciate you working on fire prevention."
  • President Bill Clinton, 1995
(On January 17, 1995, while visiting a Roseville neighborhood hard-hit by floods):
“...I also want to thank all the people who have worked here to try to help put the community back together and try to help people put their lives together. I’d especially like to say something about the young people in the California Conservation Corps. I admire that group so much, and they’ve done a lot of very, very good work."
  • President George H.W. Bush, 1988
(On October 4, 1988, while visiting Sacramento as vice president, referring to the CCC as the kind of effort that could be included in his proposed national youth service initative, YES)
"It's a big success, it does great work, it's voluntary, it involves students – and YES could help it be duplicated in other parts of this and other states."
